Costco is partnering with Shipt and plans to bring grocery delivery to 50 cities. Shipt is a grocery delivery company mainly in the south east and Texas. I wrote about Shipt's $10 sign up bonus which is still valid (link to the bonus). This is great news because… have you ever seen the lines at Costco?
According to the press release, the new service will start in Tampa and will expand to “50 markets and over 30 million households by the end of the year.” Currently, the Shipt service covers 17 million households in 35 markets. I hope that includes the northeast. In order to almost double the number of households while only adding 15 markets, I assume that means targeting the major cities like New York, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles.
How does it work?
You sign up for a Shipt membership which costs $99 per year. For that annual fee you get unlimited free deliveries. If you use them consistently, the fee seems very reasonable. For example, if you go grocery shopping 2x per month, you're paying just over $4 per delivery.
It is certainly worth it especially for those who don't own a car or have the time to waste. I LOVE to cook, but I don't have the time or patience to go to the crowded supermarket… certainly not Costco.
