I've been waiting for this promotion for a while. Last year I saw them offer this 35% bonus several times and even a 40 or 50% bonus but recently they have not had this promotion.
Why do I love this promotion?
British Airways Avios points are fantastic for short haul flights like New York to Montreal or New York to Florida. They are also great for South America travel – I recently went to Brazil (Sao Paulo, but Rio was available too) for 50k Avios points and also Sao Paulo to Santiago Chile for 20k points, so a total of 70k Avios points round trip in coach.
I will be posting details on that trip soon.
Avios points can sometimes be tricky to use, especially for the inexperienced person. Just remember what I said above — you want to use them for the short flights and to South America. If you try to use them on British Airways metal to Europe, for instance, you will pay so much in fees you will feel like you were just mugged. There are some tricks to get to Europe but that is a topic for another day. You can google “Best uses of Avios points” if you are curious or read this post here.
See One Mile at a Time's blog here for more details.
