Surprisingly, I was eligible for one of the two similar promotion I posted recently. Both stopped working in a matter of hours. Most people said it didn't work for them. I found out by calling AA that I was in fact targeted for one of the promotions. So no harm to sign up, you just might be targeted. One of the two promotions was posted on American Airlines website for all to see but when I spoke with them I was told that it was posted on Facebook and pulled as soon as the quota was reached (faster than even he expected it to). I was hoping to qualify and then book my Peru flight for around $650 (and obtain gold status at the same time) but then it went on sale for about $440 with Delta so I just booked it that.

AAdvantage Gold status received through this offer is valid through February 28, 2015. Upon reaching the required elite-qualifying miles or points threshold, your AAdvantage elite status benefits will be extended immediately.
