UBER and American Express have joined forces 

Uber is taking over the Taxi and Car service industry in more than 60 cities which I wrote about here.  Here is the press release for the partnership.

Uber users who are eligible American Express Card Members enrolled in the Membership Rewards program and who have an eligible Card on file with Uber can earn 2x points by following these steps:

Want to get 2x Amex points? – follow these steps:

1. If you are not yet an Uber user, click here sign up and download the latest version of the Uber iOS app (only for iPhone for now).  Use code ubertakefreeride to get $10 when you sign up as a new user. (Update: new users are currently getting $30 as of 7/6/14 using this link or code)
2. Tap “Enroll Me” when prompted with the Membership Rewards in-app promotional screen
3. Select an Uber ride type and set pickup location; choose to “Earn 2x Points” or “Use Points” in the Uber app for each ride
4. Don't have an American Express with membership rewards?  I wouldn't sign up for one just because of this offer but check out this page for recent hot offers  or if you are interested in small business credit cards, read this.  Wait for a good Amex offer then sign up for this later.

Can I “USE POINTS” to pay for my Uber rides?

Yes, but its not a good value since you are getting only 1 cent per point.  Its better to transfer your points to an airline.  Unless you have a ton of American Express points burning a hole in your pocket, dont do it.
