MagicofMiles reported that Expedia is offering $50 off $200 hotel bookings in 2014.

What's the catch?  You have to give them your mobile #, download and book using their mobile app, and book by July 7, 2014.

Remember that when you book through Expedia or similar website, you won't get credit towards elite status because you need need, for example, book directly with Starwood Hotels to get credit towards Platinum status.  BUT, since I will be going to Asia and probably staying in some non-chain hotels, the $50 will come in handy.  Sign up yourself and your traveling partner, and you have $100 off $400.   If you can use this, get the coupon and book in the next week, otherwise, I wouldnt do this for just $25 off.

I don't usually use these travel booking sites because I'm usually using points, but seems many people don't like Expedia – check this out:  Expedia Scam.  In the few times I've used them I havent had problems but I do make sure that my hotel reservations have free cancellation.  I hate prepaid non-cancellable room reservations.

 

How to get it

Step 1:  Click here
Step 2: Enter your mobile number and you will get a discount code.  I didnt want to give them my mobile so I tried a google voice number and it didnt work so I entered my real number.  They sent a text with a $25 discount code, ugh.  But I kept going and downloaded their app, applied the coupon for a stay in NYC > $200  and got a $50 discount.  I hate to put my mobile number online and may regret it in the future but I like to make sure deals work before I post them.
Step 3:  Click the link in the text message to download the app.
Step 4:  Redeem the coupon by July 7th 2014 and get $50.  Even though it says $25, you should get $50.  See the screen shot below which shows the $50 discount being applied.

On the Expedia page, there is a See Details link and a Terms and Conditions link which link to different offers which makes it nice and confusing but I think I figured it out.
