HOW IT WORKS

It's just like requesting a car except you select RUSH.  A courier will arrive either by foot or bicycle.

I tried it out to get a fare estimate – from Midtown Manhattan to Wall Street.  I had to drop the pin all over manhattan to find a courier — there was only one in the midtown area (you can see the bicycle in a blue circle).  When I checked again later, a few more popped up.

PRICING

UberRUSH pricing is simple:  $4 base fare + $5 per mile + $1 to the Bike Messenger Emergency Fund (a nonprofit charity).

UberRUSH Pricing

My sample fare above (Midtown to Wall Street) came to $26.  Not cheap but seems reasonable and comparable to another service, BreakawayCourier.com, that I just found on Google.

Midtown To JFK: Only $31?

I was curious and tried out a few other fare estimates.  This must be a mistake… and I can imagine a courier being really pissed if they had to ride almost 17 miles for only $31.  According to the pricing rules above, this should come to around $90.  Google maps says its a 1 hr 40 min ride.

Midtown to Newark Airport: $89

This is almost the same distance and the price is probably accurate, though NJ is not in the listed coverage area.

COVERAGE

UberRUSH provides coverage Manhattan as well as some parts of Brooklyn and Queens (Manhattan to Brooklyn & Queens is a flat rate of $30).  Manhattan is split up into 5 zones: Upper West Side, Upper East Side, Midtown, Downtown, and Lower Manhattan.

WHAT ITEMS ARE ALLOWED?

The UberRush messengers can take anything that a “normal human” can carry and up to 30 pounds.  The obvious things like expensive, fragile, dangerous, or illegal items are not allowed… and no, they won't deliver people or animals.

Want lunch or dinner from a restaurant that doesn't delivery?  No problem – just make sure your meal is paid for (messengers won't pay for items).

REAL-TIME TRACKING

Watch the location on your app – just like when you are waiting for a car to pick you up.

RECAP

I'm not sure how often I'll need or use this service but I will be happy to use my 1 free trip. Try it out and leave some comments below.
