UPDATE: I have obtained another 150 tickets for my readers! CLICK HERE to get yours and use code (All the tickets are gone).

I was able to get 20 tickets to giveaway for the New York Times Travel Show on January 9-10, 2015 in New York City. Winners can bring a +1 for free too! Click here to enter.

Last year, I attended with 2 goals in mind. One: talking to some experts about Australia for my upcoming trip. Two: Getting ideas for where else I might like to go. Even though I spoke with travel agencies, there was no hard sell. I got some good information, maps, and ideas to help plan my trip to Australia my itinerary. If you love to travel, you could easily spend 1 day here between the seminars, exhibitor booths, and chatting with experts.

HOW TO GET TICKETS

  1. Enter my giveaway. Winners can take a guest for free too!
  2. Buy discounted tickets from Goldstar $8-$15 + $3-4 service fee
  3. Buy a ticket directly from the show. Use coupon code TRAVEL16 to get 2 for 1, or promo code SOCIAL to get $3 off the regular price ($20 for 1 day or $25 for two days).

FREE RIDES – HOW TO GET THERE

The show is at the Jacob Javits Center located at 655 W. 34th St, New York, NY 10001. If you need a ride, take a Lyft (new users get $50 free credit), Uber (new users get a free ride up to $15)Gett (new users get  a free ride up to $10), or Via (new users get $10 free ride credit). Note: These are my personal referral links and I will get credit if you use them.

BAD FOOD WARNING: Plan your food ahead of time because there is nothing good anywhere around there. You'll be eating hot dogs and pizza otherwise. I suggest you walk over to 9th Ave where you'll find lots of good stuff (including one of my favorite Thai restaurants called Chili Thai).

SEMINARS

I didn't realize there were going to be seminars – and several interesting ones at that. This year, Arthur Frommer and his daughter Pauline are back. Lee Abbamonte will be telling stories about how he traveled to every country in the world by the age of 36. Last year there was plenty of discussion on miles and points too. Check out the seminar schedule to see if you find anything interesting.

PERFORMANCES

With so many things to do and a limited amount of time, I missed all the performances last year. They haven't posted the schedule for this year just yet, but check back in the coming weeks.

  1. Hi,
I love traveling and reading your blog, but somehow I missed the free tickets contest for travel expo at Javits Center. Are there any left? I have been looking for free tickets to the travel expo !
    Thanks !

    • I gave away all that I had. Check back with me in the first week of January and I’ll ask if I can get more.

  2. Thank you! I have religiously attended this for past few years and i give the performances a skip and spend minimal time brochure raiding (only for relevant upcoming trips). I find seminars to be much more useful (and not to mention inspiring).

  3. Your site is great! I too missed the opportunity to get tickets to the NY Times travel show. If you come across additional tickets, I’d be honored to go. Thank you kindly!
