iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max Trade In Deals

The pre-orders begin tomorrow on September 9. Here are the best offers…want to get a free one?

This year's trade in offers are very similar with offers of up to $800-$1000 trade in credit. Verizon and T-Mobile require the higher plans to get the most trade in credit. See below for the details on the 3 carriers. One word of caution, the credits from Verizon and AT&T come in over 36 months so you'll have to stick with the new phone for 3 years to get all the credits. With T-Mobile, it's 2 years.

What is the iPhone 14 release date?

iPhone 14 pre-orders begin on September 9 at 5am Pacific Time (8am Eastern time) and available in the stores Sept 16. So, no need to to wake up in the middle of the night if you're on the east coast if you really want to order one. iPhone 14 Plus will be available a little later on October 7, 2022.

How much does the iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max cost?

  • iPhone 14 starts at $799
  • iPhone 14 Plus starts at $899
  • iPhone 14 Pro starts at $999
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max starts at $1099

What iPhone 14 Colors are Available?

This year brings back the usual black and white along with red, purple, and blue on the non-Pro models. If you go for the more expensive Pro models, you can also get gold, silver, space black, and deep purple. If you put a case on the phone then the colors probably don't matter because you can't see it anyway.

Get up to $800 off with trade in

Similar to T-Mobile, Verizon will give you more trade in credit if you're on their more expensive plans (One Unlimited, Get More, Play More, or Do More rate plan). The trade in values are simpler.

  • One Unlimited, Get More, Play More, or Do More rate plans: To the max $800 credit, you can trade in even an older iPhone XR, XS, XS Max, all iPhone 11, 12 and 13 models
  • Any other rate plan: all iPhone XR, XS, XS Max, 11 ($400), iPhone 12 and 13 models can get up to $720
  • Older phones: iPhone 8 can get you $400/$200 depending on your rate plan
  • Trade in credits are applied over 36 months… longer than I would prefer. It's in the fine print way at the bottom of the terms.

Special Offer: NEW AND EXISTING CUSTOMERS CAN GET UP TO $1000 OFF iPhone 14 models

Trade-In Offer: AT&T is offering quite good trade-in values for your old phones. You'll need to stay on a postpaid monthly plan of $75/mo. For example trading in an iPhone 12 which had a retail price of $829 for the base model when released can get you now $1000 credit. That will even cover a Pro model or an upgraded 14 or 14 Plus. Even for very old phones like the iPhone 8, you can still get $350. Considering they give the same amount for an iPhone 12 and 12 Pro Max, the future value of the non-Pro models hold up the best.

  • Get up to the maximum $1000 bill credit, your trade in value must be $230+ which means an iPhone 11 Pro Max, 12, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max. If you have an Android, you can trade in a Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G or better, Pixel 6 Pro or OnePlus 10 Pro.
  • Get up to $800 in bill credit with trade-in value of $130-$229. Eligible trade in models include iPhone XS Max, 11, 11 Pro, 12 mini. For Androids, eligible trade-ins include Samsung Note 10+, S20 (many varieties), Pixel 5-6, and a few others.
  • Get up to $350 in bill credits with a trade in value of $35 to $129. Eligible trade in models include iPhone 8, 8+, iPhone SE (2-3rd gen) X, XR, XS
  • Trade in credits are applied over 36 months similar to Verizon

Special Offer: NEW AND EXISTING CUSTOMERS CAN GET UP TO $1000 OFF iPhone 14 models

Trade-In Offer: T-Mobile will give customers on the Magenta Max plan up to $1000 with the trade in of an iPhone 11/12/13 Pro and Pro Max models only. If you're not on the Magenta Max plan, there's a range of values. If you have an older phone like the iPhone 12, you can get $800 with the Magenta Max plan or $400 without. A portion of the credit comes in the form of monthly bill credits spread over 24 months.

  • To get the most trade in credit, you'll need to have the Magenta Max plan.
  • Magenta Max customers: Receive credit with purchase of an iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max of $1000, $800, or $400
  • Everyone Else: $600, $400, or $200 for customers on a non-Magenta Max plan (I don't have the Max plan so my trade in values would be these. The extra credits would roughly pay for the upgrade to Magenta Max, but I don't really need the extras).
  • To get the maximum $1000/$600 credit you'll need to trade in an iPhone 11/12/13 only Pro/Pro Max models.
  • A portion of the trade-in credits are applied over 24 months which is better than AT&T and Verizon

Which iPhone 14 to Get?

Inflation has been high but the base iPhone 14 model no longer has a 64gb version…the lowest you can get is 128gb and at the same price as last year's iPhone 13. If you've had your current phone for a few years already, my usual choice is the regular iPhone non-Pro model with a bit of memory upgrade. The base 14 model is near identical to both the iPhone 13 and 12 (and even the 11) base model with the addition of Emergency SOS and Crash Detection. It does not make sense to upgrade from the base 13 to base 14 model at all unless it's free using one of the trade in offers.

The 14 Pro models do have some notable upgrades including 1) a 48 megapixel main camera 2) LiDAR Scanner and 3) the Dynamic Island cutout. It also gets the new A16 chip but is anyone really going to notice it? Are these things worth the $200 upgrade to the Pro? Probably not for most people. The non-Pro model has the A15 which is from last year's models. When it comes to the battery the 14 Pro's battery is actually slightly smaller than the 14 base model even though Apple says it'll last longer. If you want the best camera, you'll want the Pro model though at 48MP you'll want to get some extra storage too. In the past I've tried the larger 6.7″ screen and it's too big for my pocket so I stay with the 6.1″ which is the perfect size in my opinion.

Last year's iPhone 13 Pro models were less compelling…you paid $200 extra for 3 cameras instead of 2, the LiDAR scanner, and 128gb storage instead of 64gb. This year you'll get a 48MP camera as well. See the comparison below for more details on the differences.
