Lyft launches Lyft PLUS – adding Premium and Larger Cars

Lyft just launched their new service called Lyft Plus. With Lyft Plus, you can get a ride in a premium and/or larger car. It is live now in NJ but not yet in New York City.

Lyft's competitor, Uber, already offers SUV service for an extra fee.  In New York City, very often I'm picked up by a larger vehicle anyway (with no extra charge), for example a new Lincoln MKT (a SUV), Suburban, Highlander, even a 2015 Yukon XL!  I've also been picked up in a Altima and a VW Golf.

Have a client meeting?  You don't want to show up in a 2005 Volkswagen Golf right? Lyft Plus has you covered. There are some occasions where you want a larger or premium car: you are going out with group of friends or you want to impress a date. I'd like to buy a large mirror from Craigslist — lets see if I can use Lyft Plus instead of hiring a mover.

TESTING IT OUT

When I launched my Lyft App, I noticed a new option at the top:  Lyft or Plus.  When I select the Plus option, there was 1 car available.  So far it is live in New Jersey but not in New York City.  Below are a few screen shots.  After I take my first ride, I'll come back and add some more comments.
