Lyft, a new ride sharing service and competitor to Uber (which I wrote about here), just launched in New York City!  Join now to be part of their PIONEER PROGRAM and GET 50 FREE RIDES IN NEW YORK. Rides are valid anytime before August 9th, 2014.  Pioneer credit is only valid for rides within the New York coverage area, up to $25 per ride.  They did the same when they launched in 24 other markets which I wrote about here.  I’ve used it a couple times already and the drivers are super friendly!  Oh and when I took a ride for less than $25, I just put $25 and the driver gets the rest as a tip (at no cost to me, but be sure to add the tip before you rate the driver because the screen closes after you submit your driver rating!)

  1. Click here to sign up for the 1 FREE RIDE up to $25  (the 50 free rides are no longer available)
  2. Download the mobile app (UPDATE 8/6/14: do it when you are in NYC!)
  3. Sign up then click in the settings –> payment –> scroll to the bottom below your credit card info.  You should see “1 free ride, up to $25 each”.  If the credits don’t show up in the app on their own, go to the Payment screen and enter the code FUN before requesting your first Lyft!

If your credits don’t show up, enter the code FUN here:

Yes, you will get a referral link in your email after you sign up.  Give it to your friends and they will get $25 credit towards your first ride.  You will also get $25 credit.  This link explains it.

It’s official: Lyft is now live in all five boroughs of NYC!

This chart explains how Lyft compares vs Taxi’s, gypsy cabs/black cars and craigslist (though I would never bother with craigslist for a ride):
